Coordinator, Policy Communications
Burness, a social change communications firm, is seeking a creative, detail-oriented person with a passion for healthy children and healthy communities to join our firm. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with an undergraduate degree in policy communications, public policy or strategic communications. Experience (i.e. internship) on Capitol Hill or with a non-profit or advocacy organization or a federal agency is preferred.
The coordinator would assist mid-level and senior staff and perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: creating media and policymaker lists, conducting online research on a variety of health or education-related policy topics, tracking news coverage, handling logistics for major media and stakeholder events, pitching to reporters, organizing meetings with Hill staff, and drafting needed materials. A candidate should be able to write clearly and concisely, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously. Specific assignments will likely focus on issues related to childhood obesity, early childhood development, social emotional learning, food policy and healthy communities. Knowledge of Mailchimp, social media advertising and basic HTML code is a plus.
