Burness Joins “Business Backs Low-Carbon USA”

By Ellen Wilson, February 2, 2017

Burness joins 700 companies in asking President Trump to commit to a low-carbon economy and implement the Paris Climate Agreement.

For us, supporting the effort is a no-brainer.

We’ve seen firsthand how climate change hurts individuals and communities: the Kenyan farmer whose harvest was wiped out by drought. The indigenous woman whose island is being swallowed by the rising sea off the coast of Papua New Guinea. The American pediatrician who is treating more cases of Lyme Disease and heat stroke in children.

It is a moral imperative—for the benefit of our families, business, country and world—to do what we can to stop climate change.

Solutions exist. Renewable energy is becoming more available and less expensive. LED lighting and electric vehicles are within reach of consumers and businesses alike.

Keeping global tropical forests standing is another solution, as deforestation releases carbon into the air and harms the globe’s ability to regulate the weather. The best way to keep those forests standing, research shows, is for governments to recognize the land rights of Indigenous Peoples, who have been protecting and sustainably managing tropical forests for generations.

We’ll continue to do our part to raise global awareness and amplify the voices of those most affected by climate change.

We embrace our responsibility as individuals and a company to commit to a low-carbon economy. If your company would like to join the cause, check out “Business Backs Low-Carbon USA” for details.
